Hello Everyone,
The calendar for 2017 is updated on the blog. There are two months open - June and October for Julie and Laverne to choose from. Also, we have books through April. These count as the books for Molly, Janet W and Janet H. Diane will be giving the next selection to choose from. Of course if either Janet reads something wonderful and wants to share, these selections can be changed. For January we'll be at Janet Weeds home to discuss A Man Called Ove.
Have a wonderful holiday season!!

Yes, that's right only one more time to get together and discuss a book while enjoying lunch. Thanks Missy for hosting this month. You had the weather angels smiling on you and it was perfect to eat outside on your beautiful patio.
Next month our get together will be one week later (December 8) at my house. We will be talking about The Ghost Bride.
Happy Reading.

Presidential National Award for the Arts
Hi Ladies,
I don't know if you saw that Sandra Cisneros the author of The House on Mango Street received the Presidential National Award for the Arts this week. It's always exciting to see someone we "know" being honored for a book we enjoyed reading.

Hi Ladies,
I don't know if this will go through, I haven't been able to get the Posts to be sent directly as emails for the past couple of months. I have no idea what happened.
Anyway the book for June is Cinder by Marissa Meyer and for July is Quiet by Susan Cain.
Hope this goes through.

Warning for Call the Midwife
Hi Ladies,
I'm not sure how many have already finished the next book Call the Midwife, but just want to pass along a warning about the graphic content. It's been suggested that you skip the chapters on Mary. If anyone has found other places that are not recommended reading please post them or let me know and I'll post them. I haven't seen the PBS series but I'm assuming that it does not contain the same material. Let us know if you have watched it and whether or not it would be appropriate viewing.
Julie will be hosting in March. See you then.

Updated Blog
Be sure to check out the blog if you want to see what we are reading next or if you would like to leave comments. I also updated the calendar.
Today I added a box I'm calling "Other Suggestions" I've noticed that even though we can only choose one book, we all seem to want to read all of the suggestions. So I'll try to be diligent and add all the books - listed on the right sidebar - that way you have a large selection of ideas.
Thanks for lunch Ellen.

January Bookclub
Ladies,
Thursday the 28th I will be hosting bookclub here at 12:30. I'm anxious to visit with all of you! I don't know how you have done things in the past, but I looked at some reviews of "Wish You Well" and thought these two questions would be interesting to discuss together:
Come with your thoughts and any quotes that touched you. It would be helpful to know who is coming, so get back to me by Tuesday.

Thursday the 28th I will be hosting bookclub here at 12:30. I'm anxious to visit with all of you! I don't know how you have done things in the past, but I looked at some reviews of "Wish You Well" and thought these two questions would be interesting to discuss together:
Lou has great trouble
believing that her mother will get better, while Oz's faith never wavers. Do
you believe that the older we get, the less we believe in the possibility of
miracles? Is that solely because of the accumulated failures most suffer in life
which chip away at the idealism of youth, or is there another reason?
Lou and Oz learned
much about their family's past in the novel. The conveyance of such familial
knowledge is a major theme in the story. Do people today care about the past as
a guidepost to the future? Should we place more emphasis on oral histories and
lessons learned from our ancestors? Or is the future so different now that the
past holds little value for us?
